2012 Bottega Vinaia Lagrein Dunkel
Here is a vigorous, lively and crunchy red wine that is no shrinking violet. Lagrein is an indigenous variety at home in the Lagarina Valley of Trentino, Italy and is a relative of Syrah, Pinot Noir and Dureza. It is a juxtaposition of a grape variety with deep colour and assertive tannin yet a vibrancy and dash of dewiness, making it an intriguing sipper and excellent wine for the dinner table.
A total of 12 months in barrique and another 6 months in cask adds layers of texture, complexity and flavour. Certainly an outlyer for most wine consumers but a delish wine experience non the less. Very limited quantities and a must try. Drink now through 2020.
